Glam-pop two-piece Foxygen might have one of the most stupid names in indie rock, but don’t let their name deter you. The band has been on the scene for a couple of years, and their first album Take the Kids off Broadway was released this year on Jagjaguwar. The band takes influence from the Rolling Stones, T-Rex and David Bowie to make music that is like a less-cloying dance-pop than MGMT and more in the vein of the freewheeling spirt of early of Montreal records. Which is precisely why of Montreal, who are playing 9:30 Club tomorrow night, tapped the band as their opener.

Foxygen are releasing their second album We Are The 21st Century Ambassadors of Peace & Magic next year, and today’s song of the day is their first single from the new record “Shuggie.” Recoded by the walking AM radio Richard Swift (The Mynabirds, The Shins), the three-minute track is packed with exciting twists and turns in time signature a lot like Ariel Pink’s, another roof the band’s influence’s, biggest hits “Round and Round.”

Foxygen play tomorrow night with of Montreal and French Horn Rebellion at the 9:30 Club. Tickets are $20.
