Today at Silverdocs: Canned Ravioli, New Orleans, Marina Abramovic and a James Brown Impersonator
Canned Dreams The next time you find yourself eating canned ravioli for lunch, think about all the ingredients that went into making it and all of the people that may have played a role in the process. Canned Dreams deconstructs that ravioli, highlighting not only the global food chain that goes into producing its various ingredients, but also the lives and struggles of the people involved. While the ingredients may come from far-flung locales—the metal for the can from Brazil, the pork from Poland, the tomatoes from Portugal—the people that make up complex machinery that brings those individual pieces together are much the same, sharing similar hopes and fears. Canned Dreams allows the images and characters speak for themselves, and the end result is a surprisingly human view of what could be a culinary afterthought. —Martin Austermuhle Screens Friday, June 22 at 12:15 p.m. at the AFI Silver Theatre 3, and Saturday, June 23 at 2:30 p.m. at the Discovery HD Theater.
