Snack of the Week: Spicy Chocolate and Cardamom Gelato Combo
Where: Pitango
Don’t let the above photo fool you. This week’s featured treat may look like the classic chocolate and vanilla gelato combination, but a miniature-spoon bite can unleash quite a zing.
The spicy chocolate and cardamom duo can be found at Pitango. I first encountered the Eastern spice flavored gelato a few weeks ago and fell in love. On a recent excursion to the gelato shop’s Penn Quarter location, my eyes randomly fell on the chocolate mixed with a hint of hot pepper. The two are unusual flavors to enjoy during the summer. I personally associate spicy chocolate with the heavy Mexican hot chocolate; while cardamom brings forth fond memories when my best friend/former roommate made homemade steamy chai every morning. But if these flavors are in a creamy, chilled form, then they’re a fun, savory pair to combat the sweltering heat.
