Our own local champion competitive eater has struck again!

Alexandria native Sonya Thomas—known as the “Black Widow”—ate her way to another women’s title at Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July International Hot Dog Eating Contest on Coney Island yesterday, reports NBC4. Thomas ate 45 hot dogs, topping last year’s 41; she bested Juliet Lee of Germantown, Maryland, who only managed 33 hot dogs.

More locally, “Furious Pete” Czerwinski ate 15 hamburgers in 10 minutes for a fourth-consecutive title at Z-Burger’s Annual Independence Burger Eating Championship in Tenleytown.
