These remarkably high temperatures have been troubling the transportation infrastructure. Not only has the heat buckled roads and possibly caused the derailment of a train, it has also apparently got a plane, ready to take off, stuck on the tarmac Friday night at the Reagan National Airport.

The Post reports that the “unusual temperatures” softened the airport paving, causing the plane’s wheels to sink down that soft spot. It took two attempts by tow vehicles to pull the immobilized US Airways jetliner until the plane was ready to fly away to Charleston, S.C.
