Airplane Gets Stuck on Soft Tarmac Caused By Heat
These remarkably high temperatures have been troubling the transportation infrastructure.
The D.C.-area’s temperatures on Saturday hit the 106-degree mark, but they didn’t linger for at least three minutes, the required limit, to be considered one of the hottest days recorded in area history. Instead, yesterday’s high of 105 will go down as the second hottest day.
This summer’s heat wave has already set several records: the hottest day in June and the longest stretch of days with temperatures over 95 degrees. But will today surpass the 106 degrees, the hottest day recorded in the area?
The National Weather Service’s heat warning throughout the D.C.-area has prompted the Department of Parks and Recreation to cancel park-sponsored and permitted outdoor activities for the weekend.

Record for Consecutive 95-Degree Days Is Set to Fall
For more than a week now, the high temperature in D.C. has topped 95 degrees. The eight-day streak continuing today matches a record set in 1987 and matched in 1993 and 2002.
