The Washington Business Journal reports that the former Top Chef star has signed a lease for his new steak and frites eatery, Béarnaise, which will be located on the same block as the original location of Good Stuff Eatery and We, the Pizza. The 3,000-square-foot space that will become Béarnaise—where Playmates will eat for free!—is currently occupied by Thai Roma, a Thai restaurant, and seperated from Mendelsohn’s two other restaurants by little more than a dry cleaner.
The steak and frites concept isn’t new to D.C.—Cleveland Park’s Medium Rare is doing quite well with it—nor is it a sudden idea for Mendelsohn. The City Paper reported in February that he was considering the option; all that was left was to find a suitable location.
Good Stuff Eatery recently expanded into Crystal City, and a new location is expected in Georgetown at some point this year.
According to the Business Journal, Béarnaise should be open by October. That’s a maybe, though, warned a Mendelsohn spokesperson.
