Photo courtesy of car2goWe reported yesterday that car-sharing service car2go will soon add 100 cars to its existing fleet of 200 Smart Cars. But on top of expanding service, car2go will also be paying D.C. for the privilege of allowing users not to have pay for parking when they use those new cars.
For the first 200 cars to get out of parking tickets for a year, car2go paid D.C. $578,000 earlier this year. The additional 100 cars will cost car2go $215,300, according to the D.C. Department of Transportation, or $2,890 per car.
Car2go promotes the fact that its users don’t have to pay for parking while using the cars. The only limitation on car2go use are rush hour and street-sweeping parking restrictions—pretty much all other on-street spots are fair game.
