A man was struck and killed by a Red Line train at the Rockville Metro station this morning, according to several news reports.
Investigators told news outlets that the incident occurred between 11:00 — 11:30 a.m. WJLA and WTOP report that the man “intentionally placed himself in the path of the train,” while NBC4 says it’s unclear “what caused the person to end up on the tracks.”
The man was fatally injured after he was struck by the train. He was later pronounced dead when his body arrived at the local hospital.
The Rockville station was closed this morning, but trains are currently single tracking between Shady Grove, Rockville and Twinbrook stations.
