A University of Maryland student who was arrested in March after threatening to go on a campus-wide rampage pleaded guilty today to charges of misusing a telephone and disrupting the business of a school, reports WJLA:

He pleaded guilty to two of eight charges: misuse of telephone and disturbing business of a school. His sentencing was deferred so they can evaluate his progress beforehand. He is no longer required to wear GPS or stay at home, but he must maintain a 9 pm curfew and see a therapist.

Song was also ordered to do 200 hours of community service. The Prince George’s County States Attorney Angela Alsobrooks is not recommending jail time because he had no criminal record and they found no weapons or even attempt to obtain weapons. He has also behaved well since the incident.

In the March incident, Song posted messages on Reddit threatening to go on a shooting big enough to “make national news.” He was quickly arrested, charged and suspended from the university.

The telephone misuse charge might seem like a strange one, but it was recently used against Neil Prescott, the 28-year-old Maryland man who threatened a Colorado-style shooting at his workplace. Though he was found with 25 guns, they were all legally purchased and registered, leaving prosecutors few options.

According to WJLA, Prince George’s County States Attorney Angela Alsobrooks said she plans on using the two crimes as a means to push for legislation that would make it a crime to make generalized threats.
