>> Pianist Freddie Redd is a living history of the hard bop era. He will team up with a fine group of area musicians this Friday and Saturday, including saxophonist Brad Linde and drummer Tony Martucci, at Twins Jazz. $15 plus $10 minimum.
>> Keyboardist Federico Gonzalez Peña has played with a host of amazing musicians, and we’ll run through some of them in our extended interview, which will run later this week. In the mean time, know that he’ll lead a band on Friday and Saturday at Bohemian Caverns. 8:30 and 10:30 p.m. sets. $18.
>> Last year’s performance by the Jeff Coffin Mu’tet at Blues Alley was one of our favorite jazz shows of 2011. The Dave Matthews Band saxophonist returns to the club on Friday for a three night stand of 8 and 10 p.m. sets. Flecktones percussionist Future Man will join the group. $25 plus $12.50 minimum.
>> HR-57 hosts the EC III Quartet on Friday and the Donny West Quartet on Saturday. Both shows 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. $15.
>> CapitalBop presents its monthly Jazz Loft on Sunday at Hole in the Sky (2110 5th St. NE (alley)). The lineup includes saxophonist Braxton Cook, the 33 1/3 trio and bassist Steve Synk. 7 p.m. $10 suggested donation.
>> Singer-songwriter Avi Wisnia has been described as what would happen if Ben Folds and Norah Jones had a love child in Brazil. On Sunday at Twins Jazz, he will present an eclectic mix of original and cover tunes, finding inspiration in Brazilian bossa nova, acoustic American folk, 1950’s west-coast jazz, and contemporary pop. 8 and 10 p.m. sets. $10 plus $10 minimum.
>> Comprised of vocalists Sofia Rei, Malika Zarra, Sachal Vasandani, Mathias Kunzli, and Keita Ogawa, New York-based ensemble Sefira blends jazz, North African, and Latin American music in an ensemble that uses only voice and percussion. The group will play the Millennium Stage on Monday. 6 p.m. Free.
