>> There’s nothing the late Eva Cassidy couldn’t sing. blues, jazz, folk, country, gospel, pop—she made it all hers. The area native succumbed to cancer before her music became widely known, but her legacy remains intact, and her Live at Blues Alley recording will forever be one of the our city’s best albums. The Music Center at Strathmore will host a tribute to Cassidy on Thursday, featuring a number of fantastic vocalists doing their interpretations of her best-loved material. The show is sold out, but it’s worth contacting the box office for last minute availability.

>> Véronneau was formed in 2010 by French Canadian vocalist Lynn Véronneau and her husband, guitarist Ken Avis from Northern England. Now based in NoVa, the group will perform on Friday on the Millennium Stage. 6 p.m. Free.
>> Saxophonist Dohn Nunley leads a band on Friday at Jazz Night in Southwest. 6 p.m. $5.
>> Over his 30+ year career, drummer Harold Summey has performed with artists as varied as Sonny Rollins and Whitney Houston, and now teaches in Howard University’s respected jazz program. He will lead a group of top-notch area talent on Friday and Saturday at Twins Jazz. The band includes pianist Allyn Johnson, bassist James King and saxophonist Charlie Young. 9 and 11 p.m. sets. Tickets $15 plus $10 food/drink minimum.

>> Over his 40-plus year career, Charles Covington, Jr. has held faculty positions at Howard and Peabody, performed for Presidents and has earned a Life Master title from the U.S. Chess Federation. The respected pianist will perform on Saturday at the Millennium Stage. 6 p.m. Free.
>> In addition to being an accomplished jazz vocalist, Lori Williams is the General Music Teacher, Director of Choirs, and former Music Department Chairperson at Woodrow Wilson Senior High School in D.C. Williams will lead her group through 8 and 10 p.m. sets on Saturday at Blues Alley. Tickets $25 plus $12.50 minimum/surcharge.
