FRIDAY

OUTDOOR FILM: Summer’s winding down, so get to an outdoor film tonight. The Rosslyn Outdoor Film Festival (1300 Lee Highway, Arlington) is screening Wag the Dog tonight, the penultimate film of the summer season.

BEER: Stop by The Butcher’s Block (1600 King Street, Alexandria) today between 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. in honor of DC Beer Week for a craft beer tasting. Beer distributor Michael Zelechoski, of Hop and Wine, and Butcher’s Block manager Deanna Jerore will be pouring local and craft beers and offering cheese and charcuterie pairings. The beers that will be poured include Bells Two-Hearted Ale, Port City Optimal Wit, Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald Porter, Lagunitas IPA, and DC Brau. Free. (Other Beer Week options are here.)

FOOD & DRINK: Alexandria’s Summer Restaurant Week kicks off tonight and runs through August 26. Some 48 restaurants in Old Town, Del Ray and the West End will be offering $35 prix-fixe three course dinner or a $35 dinner for two.

SATURDAY

CHUCK BROWN DAY: The Godfather of Go-Go may have passed, but that won’t stop fans of D.C.’s indigenous music from gathering at the Washington Convention Center for Chuck Brown Day, a concert featuring 10 bands (including Brown’s own, which will offer him a tribute). Doors open at 3 p.m. and the show starts at 4 p.m.; tickets range from $40 for general admission to $350 for VIP access and can be bought here. (Update: The City Paper reports that the event has been cancelled over contractual issues.)

CONCERT-GOING FOR A GOOD CAUSE: Head out to Merriweather Post Pavilion tonight for My Morning Jacket and Band of Horses, if only because they’re both great bands and part of the proceeds of the ticket sales will go to 826DC, a non-profit organization that encourages and teaches students age 6-18 to write. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and tickets—which you can get here—range from $39.50 to $49.50.

CRABBY COOKING CLASS: Say farewell to the soft shell crab season by learning how best to cook them. BLT Steak (625 I Street NW) Executive Chef Jon Mathieson will be on hand on how to prepare the local delicacy, and the $100 class includes a complimentary four-course meal. The class kicks off at 12:30; call 202-689-8989 to reserve a spot.

SUNDAY

FOOD & DRINK: Bourbon Steak’s (2800 Pennsylvania Avenue NW) third annual pig roast is today, and for $60 (tickets here) you’ll get a whole roasted pig, oysters, grilled corn, tacos and desserts. Noon to 3 p.m.

HISTORIC COMICS: If traditional D.C. history books don’t do it for you, maybe you should try District Comics, a “graphic anthology featuring lesser-known stories about Washington, D.C., from its earliest days as a rustic settlement along the swampy banks of the Potomac to the modern-day metropolis.” The comic book’s creators will be at Arlington’s One More Page Books (2200 N Westmoreland Street #101, Arlington) from 3-5 p.m., where they will discuss the project and sign copies. Free.
