The Memphis, Tenn. band Toxie is one of those outfits that can be considered a supergroup. Its lineup of singer-bassist Alexandra Burden, guitarist Madison Farmer of Chain & the Gang, and Will McElroy and Ben Bauermeister from the Magic Kids blends numerous styles in producing girl-group-inspired tracks that sound as if they’ve been transmuted through a garage filter. Toxie is playing Comet Ping Pong tomorrow night and they just released a new track called “Newgate.” The two-minute song is heavy on the fuzzed-out bass with unexpected synth flourishes and sing-spoke vocals that are fantastic. The band doesn’t have much other material yet, but expect them to make a big splash over the next year or so.

Toxie plays Tuesday, August 28 at 9 p.m. with Big Mouth and Big Hush at Comet Ping Pong (5037 Connecticut Ave NW). Tickets $10.
