While there aren’t many concerts this week in D.C., there were a slew of new releases from bands coming to D.C. in the coming month. One of those bands, Wild Nothing, is releasing its sophomore album and will be in town on September 25 with friends DIIV at the Rock and Roll Hotel.
Starting as a solo project of band leader Jack Tatum while he was in college in Blacksburg, VA, Wild Nothing has progressed from bedroom to full studio act now living in Brooklyn, NY. Tatum’s dream-pop tracks are 80s-inspired, but totally of the now. Compared to first album Gemini, Nocturne is a more fleshed out version of Wild Nothing, with less static hiss and more flair.
Today’s song of the day, album opener “Shadow,” is striking, as it pales in comparison to their old material. The sounds mesh so well, like the drum hits, the breezy guitar line Tatum’s whispery half-sung/spoke vocals.
Wild Nothing plays Tuesday September 25 with DIIV and BLONDS at the Rock and Roll Hotel. Tickets are $15.
