After a poor showing in July, five D.C. agencies improved their grades over the summer and might just get the car they’ve been asking for if they keep up the good work.

According to a new D.C. government initiative that harvests public opinion from web-based surveys, text messages, phone calls, tweets, and Facebook postings—but not blog comments—the D.C. Department of Transportation, Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs, Department of Public Works, Department of Motor Vehicles, and Department of Parks and Recreation have all shown improvements in how their service is perceived by residents.

While a late-July report card found the five agencies just barely getting by, the most recent update has shown some impressive improvements, especially for DDOT, which jumped from a C- to an A- over the course of a month. DCRA improved from a C- to a B+, DPW from a C+ to a B+, DPR from a C- to a B+, and the DMV from a C- to a B-. (The full report card is below.)

Well done, everyone, but maybe you could learn a little something from DDOT. It finishes its work before going out to play, doesn’t mingle with the wrong crowd and even finds time for trips to the library.

D.C. plans on expanding the program to 10 agencies this fall.
