During last night’s closing speeches at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, faithful Democrats of all stripes tried to demonstrate their commitment to re-electing President Obama this November. There were union workers, teachers, veterans, and any number of identity-based groups like “Arab-Americans for Obama” and “Brazilian-Americans for Obama.”

And then there were the “Sluts for Obama.” A DCist tipster caught a convention-goer as the camera panned over them, and noticed that they were wearing a “Sluts for Obama” button.

This isn’t just a one-off button from a Democrat with a sense of humor, though. After Georgetown law student Sandra Fluke was called a “slut” by Rush Limbaugh earlier this year, an Arizona-based couple started the a “Sluts for Obama” Facebook group. They wrote in late March:

Two weeks ago, we started Sluts For Obama 2012. It’s a way to provide information on the issues concerning the GOP’s war on women. As we approach closer to November 6th, it’s also an avenue to promote and encourage voter registration. The way we see it, if 99% of American women have used birth control, we’re all sluts.

They weren’t the only one to have such an idea, apparently. Roll Call reported earlier this week that an Illinois delegate to the convention printed up 1,000 “Sluts Vote” pins—and they sold well. The “Sluts for Obama” buttons, though, were also for sale; one convention-goer caught them at the New Hampshire delegation breakfast yesterday. (New slogan: “Live Free or Die…Sluts”?) Not surprisingly, there’s a CafePress store for “Sluts for Obama” gear. And if you want a button too, eBay’s got some for sale.

Republicans really should be worried—they have no idea what the sluts for Obama are willing to do to get him elected.
