Pip Brown, better known by her stage handle Ladyhawke (with an “e” so as not to be confused with the Canadian band), took a few years off after the tour for her debut self-titled album to focus on her personal life. Four years later Brown has released her second album, Anxiety, and it is much different from the glamed-up pop of her debut. Brown, who played every instrument on the record, took garage rock as her influence, adding more guitars and pushing the synths to the far background. Today’s song of the day, “Blue Eyes,” has a charging drum and fuzzed out guitars, but Brown’s voice and knack for pop hooks still sparkle.
Ladyhawke plays tonight with Computer Magic, OUTPUTMESSAGE and Lightwaves (DJ) at the Rock and Roll Hotel. Tickets are $15.
