Mood Lounge, the Shaw nightclub that became a pit of controversy last year when two people were stabbed outside its doorstep, will lose its liquor license again for not complying with District officials’ orders in the wake of the stabbing incident.
In a September 19 ruling, the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board fined the establishment $7,000 and ordered it to surrender its liquor license for 10 days beginning October 26. After the double stabbing last December 30, Mood Lounge was shut down for nearly three weeks as police investigated the stabbing and the control board reviewed the business’ practices.
Among the steps Mood Lounge owner Abeba Beyane was ordered to take was the installation of a new security camera system with the ability to save footage onto external disks. That appears not to have happened, according to the control board ruling obtained by the blog EastShawDC.
Additionally, Mood Lounge has been the cause of several noise complaints since the January hearing at which it was allowed to re-open following the stabbing. Since opening, the bar, located at 1318 Ninth Street NW, has been the subject of many complaints from nearby residents in the Blagden Alley pocket of Shaw.
