Two Door Cinema Club broke big in 2010 with the release of its debut album, Tourist History. While already a sensation in the UK, the dance-punk three-piece made waves on our shores playing some pretty big shows with label mates Phoenix. A label wasn’t the only thing Two Door shared with Phoenix, though—producer Philippe Zdar added his special sheen to their debut. Fast forward two years later, and the band is still on a high. With a dedicated fan base in the States, especial here in D.C., Two Door returns to our area to play two sold-out shows at the 9:30 Club tonight and tomorrow.

The band has also released its second album, Beacon, a record that isn’t quite as scrappy as its first but still sounds expansive. Taking the route Bloc Party took with its sophomore record, the band turned to superstar Jackknife Lee to build upon their already stadium-worthy sound. Today’s song of the day, album opener “Next Year,” isn’t as much progress for the band as it is status quo—but why fix what isn’t broken? The track is a solid stomper with a sing-along chorus and a little bit of guitar flourish.

Two Door Cinema Cub plays tonight and tomorrow with Friends and Guards at the 9:30 Club. Tickets are sold out, but the band is DJing an after party at U Street Music Hall tonight with Ben Browning (Cut Copy) and Stereo Faith. Tickets are $10– or free with your 9:30 Club ticket.
