Consignment is not the only way frugal fashionistas can get a good deal on clothes, shoes, jewelry and other accessories. Clothing swaps continue to gain popularity during these tough economic times. At these large events or intimate private gatherings, people (often women) can take their unwanted items that are still in good condition and pick out other used things in the same condition without buyer’s remorse.
The clothing swaps I’ve attended have been organized by friends and co-workers. But if these opportunities don’t arise, here are a few upcoming clothing swaps in the D.C.-area listed on the Meetup website:
Washington, D.C. Clothing Swap Society
Sunday, October 14, 12 p.m.
Black Eyed Susie
3443 14th Street NW #2, Washington, D.C.
Frugal Fashionista Clothing Swap (Potluck)
Sunday, November 18, 1 – 3 p.m.
Franconia Governmental Center
6121 Franconia Road, Alexandria, Va.
Frugal Fashionista Plus Size Clothing Swap (Potluck)
Sunday, December 9, 1 – 3 p.m.
Franconia Governmental Center
6121 Franconia Road, Alexandria, Va.
If these dates are not feasible or the spots have already filled up (and the waiting list is too long), then you can always organize one. It’s another great way to hang out with friends and meet new ones.
