An ad equating Muslims with savages and pledging to support Israel and “defeat jihad” will appear in four Metro stations starting today.
Late Friday a federal judge in D.C. ruled that despite security concerns expressed by Metro and three federal agencies, the ads were protected speech and could not be denied placement throughout the Metro system.
The ads, purchased and produced by the American Freedom Defense Initiative, have also appeared in San Francisco and New York, the latter after a similar legal battle as the one that took place here.
According to WTOP, the Council on American Islamic Relations, American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee and the Jewish Voice for Peace have joined together in asking Metro to provide free space for them to counter the ad’s claims.
Metro hasn’t said where the ads will be placed, so if you happen upon one, feel free to email us and let us know where it is.
