How to Dress Well gained popularity from a series of free EPs dropped through its website. Little was known about the darkwave hip-hop-loving man behind the music, but like all Internet hype stories, the details slowly reveal themselves.
Tom Krell originally from Colorado, released all of his music while he was living abroad in Cologne, Germany. His first album, Love Remains, was a selection of tracks from his free EPs, all remastered. This year’s recently released Total Loss, however, is a different beast. It still remains in the witchy mood, but is made up of entirely new material.
Today’s song of the day is an album highlight and a song of the year contender, “& It Was U.” The New Jack Swing-ripping track starts a cappella but then a shifting beat slowly creeps in to cushion Krell’s sweet voice. Check out the track and be sure to catch How To Dress Well tonight at Rock and Roll Hotel.
