At some point soon, a flag that most certainly isn’t D.C.’s stars-and-bars will rise above the John Wilson Building, the seat of D.C.’s executive and legislative branches.
As part of a friendly bet over the post-season series between Mayor Vince Gray and his St. Louis counterpart, the city’s respective flags were put on the line—the Cardinals lose, St. Louis flies D.C.’s flag; D.C. loses, we fly St. Louis’.
Well, we lost. And according to the Post, Gray will make good on the bet—at some point this week, St. Louis’ Three Rivers flag will fly in front of the Wilson Building.
Thankfully, St. Louis has a nice flag, nice enough that in 2004 the North American Vexillological Association said it was among the five best-designed city flags in the country. Then again, D.C.’s flag ranked first. Sad trombone.
