Come January 21, Metro will have to be ready for the hundreds of thousands of people expected to descend on the city for the presidential inauguration, whether they’re here to see President Obama take the oath of office again or witness Mitt Romney become the country’s 45th president.

And to prepare for that job, the transit agency will also be printing up commemorative SmarTrip cards, the designs of which it unveiled late last week. One will feature Obama with the tagline “America Makes History Again,” while the Republican alternative will have Romney with “A New Future for America.” As of now, according to spokesman Dan Stessel, the agency plans on printing up 100,000 of the winner’s cards.

In 2008, Metro created a commemorative SmarTrip card for Obama, which it sold for $10 with no fare included on it. The cards were extremely popular, eventually ending up on eBay for $25 a pop.

And no, Metro doesn’t have designs at the ready for the Green Party’s Jill Stein, the Libertarian Party’s Gary Johnson and the Constitution Party’s Virgil Goode. They should, though, if only to come up with clever taglines—”Third Party, Bitches!”, maybe?—for them.
