Tasty.Speeding, shots fired, soap eaten: there was a bit of everything yesterday outside of the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, where a woman was entangled in a bizarre standoff with police. Reports the Examiner:
The bizarre series of incidents began about 11:25 a.m. Tuesday when the Virginia State police clocked a black Mitsubishi on Interstate 66 driving 93 mph, and pursued the vehicle until the car crossed into Maryland, said Montgomery County police Capt. Paul Starks.
The vehicle pulled into the entrance of the Walter Reed hospital, then made a U-turn and became stuck in traffic. Military police approached the female driver and observed her biting a bar of soap as she sat behind the wheel.
She then rammed her Mitsubishi into another car and attempted to run over a police officer, prompting medical center police to open fire, Starks said. No one was struck by the gunfire.
The driver backed up, and struck a police cruiser, jumped the curb, and drove across the grass to escape.
27-year-old Angela Akosua Cobbold was eventually taken into custody, and charges are pending. No word on what brand of soap she was eating.
