Titus Andronicus’ 2010 album The Monitor is pretty much a perfect album. The NJ band amped its sound to the max while still being instantly catchy and showing off a superior set of skills.

So what is a band to do after making a masterpiece? If you are anything like Titus Andronicus, you just say fuck it and do whatever you want. The band just released its third record, Local Business, and no, it isn’t as good as The Monitor, nor is it as impressive as its first record The Airing of Our Grievances. I’m not quite sure if it is even one of the better records of this year, but it is a TA record, so I can give it a pass. Sounding as if it was recorded in one take in a small room, Local Business suffers from production elements and the direct song-writing that frontman Patrick Stickles has been known for.

Even with a lukewarm record in tow, the band is still incredible live and is playing a somehow not yet sold-out show tonight at the Rock and Roll Hotel, so today’s song of the day is the first single from Local Business “In A Big City.”

Titus Andronicus plays tonight with Ceremony and True Head at the Rock and Roll Hotel. Tickets are $20.
