Upon further review, the Barnes & Noble store at Union Station won’t be closing at the end of the year. In a sudden reversal of its decision, the bookseller announced it accepted a one-year extension from its landlord, a company spokeswoman says.
News of the store’s closing yesterday was first reported by The Washington Post, and today the company says that and other stories about the move elicited an outpouring of public lament.
The Post reports today that the new lease was tendered shortly after the original Post story appeared; many commenters on the story bemoaned a development that would have left a downtown store as Barnes & Noble’s lone remaining D.C. store.
