11 p.m.: With 83 precincts reporting, Grosso stands at 21 percent, with Brown trailing at 15.47 percent. Majors got his votes, so the Libertarian Party has no received major party status.
10:45 p.m.: OK, let’s call some races. Eleanor Holmes Norton will again be D.C.’s delegate to the House of Representatives, while Council Chair Phil Mendelson will finish out Kwame Brown’s term atop the city’s legislature. Councilmembers Jack Evans (D-Ward 2) and Muriel Bowser (D-Ward 4) were unopposed, as was Shadow Representative Nate Bennett-Fleming. Shadow Senator Michael Brown seems to be cruising to re-election, as do Councilmembers Yvette Alexander (D-Ward 7) and Marion Barry (D-Ward 8).
10:30 p.m.: With 69 precincts reporting—48 percent of the total—Grosso is holding over Brown, 21.35 to 15.89. Orange moves up a hair to 36.08 percent. No changes with Alexander, Barry or Mendelson; three charter amendments are still up. Majors is less than 200 votes away from his goal.
10 p.m.: With 24 precincts reporting—16 percent of the total—Grosso has widened his lead over Brown, 21.68 to 16.61. Orange is steady at 34.75 percent. Alexander, Barry and Mendelson still up over challengers, while all three charter amendments are winning easily. Bruce Majors, who is challenging D.C. Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton, is above 4,000 votes, which puts him within spitting distance of the 7,500 he needs to get the Libertarian Party major party status. Libertarian Party presidential contender Gary Johnson, though, only has 447 votes so far. President Obama, not surprisingly, is cleaning up—he’s got over 92% of the vote. Two uncontested councilmembers—Ward 2’s Jack Evans and Ward 4’s Muriel Bowser—are winning, not surprisingly.
9:30 p.m.: The results are in for the 53,961 early votes. (That’s just over 11 percent of all registered voters.) The big takeaways: in the At-Large race, David Grosso leads Michael Brown 20.73% to 18.13%. Vincent Orange leads all comers with 34.45%. In Ward 7, Yvette Alexander is up over Ron Moten, while in Ward 8 Marion Barry is winning. All three charter amendments are winning by large margins. Additionally, Council Chair Phil Mendelson is beating Calvin Gurley handily, 74-24.
9:26 p.m.: I was just told that 90-95 percent of the city’s 143 precincts are now closed.
8:55 p.m.: And if you want to follow along the D.C. results, check here. You’ll probably find yourself refreshing the page a whole lot.
8:40 p.m. As I said earlier today, I’m mostly watching to see if Councilmember Michael Brown (I-At Large) is brought down by challenger David Grosso, if Councilmember Yvette Alexander (D-Ward 7) survives her challenge from Ron Moten, if the three ethics-related charter amendments pass, and if the Libertatian Party gets the 7,500 votes it needs to gain major party status.
8:30 p.m.: I’m firmly ensconced in the offices of the D.C. Board of Elections, where we’ll hopefully soon start getting in the results from the local races. It might be a little bit before anything comes in, though—lines have been reported at 105 polling stations, which remain open. Early voting results will be tallied at 9 p.m., I’m told.
