Death Cab For Cutie has been a band for a while now, but like Coldplay, many may be hard-pressed to name a member who is not frontman Ben Gibbard. Gibbard isn’t just huge because of being in DCFC, but he also was in the much-loved band The Postal Service, and was totally married to Zooey Deschanel for a hot minute. So while still reeling from his divorce and taking time off from his band, Gibbard finally got around to putting out a solo record, Former Lives. Gibbard has played shows solo before, and even put in an amazing contribution into the Home series, but Former Lives is his first true solo outing. Today’s song of the day, “Teardrop Windows,” sounds like a mid-period DCFC track with a bouncy chorus that will get stuck in your head.
Ben Gibbard plays tonight with Advanced Base (Owen Ashworth formerly of Casiotone for the Painfully Alone) at Sixth & I Historic Synagogue. Tickets are $40.
