As happens every four years, the D.C. Department of Transportation announced today that it plans on repaving Pennsylvania Avenue between Third and 14th Streets NW.

The paving, which is meant to prepare the avenue for the presidential inaugural parade on January 21, will begin tonight and last some 10 days. During the repaving—which will take place overnight—the bicycle lanes running the length of the middle of the avenue will disappear, only to reappear when the work is done.

According to the D.C. Department of Transportation, the repaving will cost $2 million and be paid for by D.C. The city will seek reimbursement from the federal government, though, as part of the usual costs associated with the quadrennial inaugural celebrations.
