FRIDAY

HOLIDAY ALBUM: Break out the fair isle sweater and get ready for Yuletide thoughts, Hanukkah musings and the airing of other grievances when the talk show and podcast You, Me, Them, Everybody records its annual holiday album. A lineup of comedians, musicians, storytellers and other assorted performers will get into that seasonal mood at Above the Bike Shop (2501 Champlain St NW). Begins 7:30 p.m.

SHORT FILMS AND STORYTELLING: DC Shorts and SpeakeasyDC are teaming up to create films based on tales from local storytellers, calling the collaboration “Speakeasy Shorts.” Seven storytellers will share “touching, funny, insightful and personal stories about their lives.” Then, the participating filmmakers in this project will have five days to write, shoot, and edit films based on these stories. At the U.S. Navy Memorial Heritage Center (701 Pennsylvania Avenue NW), 7 and 9:30 p.m. Tickets $20.

COLBERT: Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton’s favorite TV funny-man is signing copies of his new book, America Again: Re-Becoming the Greatness We Never Weren’t at Politics & Prose (5015 Connecticut Avenue NW). Free with purchase of the book ($25; Grand Central Publishing).

MINI-GOLF: Play H Street Country Club’s (1335 H Street NE) mini-golf course for free and knock back $5 margaritas tonight. It’s for a good cause: the Perry Center, a nonprofit community center in the North Capitol neighborhood, serving youth, families and economically disadvantaged D.C. residents. From 5 to 9 p.m.

SANDY: Olivia Newton-John is celebrating 40 years in show business, and performs at Strathmore (10701 Rockville Pike, Rockville). Things will probably get Grease-y. 8 p.m., tickets $38-78.

SATURDAY

SCIENCE: The Arlington Planetarium (1426 N. Quincy Street, Arlington) screens Dynamic Earth, a new program delving into the wonders of Earth’s climates and ecosystems, not limited to hurricanes, sharks, whales and volcanoes. Admission $3 for planetarium members, $5 for non-members. 7:15 p.m.

ROCK: Low Cut Connie, a New York band that sounds like it tumbled out of a 1960s’ dive bar, plays a free show at The Dunes (1402 Meridian Place NW).

BENEFIT: Radio CPR, the Mount Pleasant-based independent station, throws its annual benefit concert at La Casa (3166 Mount Pleasant Street NW), featuring the bands Edie Sedgwick, America Hearts and Lowercase Letters. $5. 7 p.m.

SUNDAY:

TURKEY: Jack Rose Dining Saloon (2007 18th Street NW) gets ahead of Thanksgiving with its second-annual “Mutha Firkin Turkey Roast.” For $18, diners can get their share of a spit-roasted turkey, mashed potatoes and Brussels sprouts and top it off with a glass tapped from the restaurant’s firkin of Heavy Seas Peg Leg Stout.

SYNTHS ARE BACK: The Magnetic Fields, touring for their 2012 album Love at the Bottom of the Sea, play at Sixth and I Historic Synagogue (600 I Street NW). After three albums created without the use of synthesizers, the Stephen Merritt-led group brought them back this year. Tickets $35. 8 p.m.
