BEER: Already in the holiday spirit, Bier Baron (1523 22nd Street NW) is hosting an “Anchor Before Xmas Party and Ugly Sweater Contest” tonight, offering sampler flights of 3 Christmas ales and a $50 gift certificate to the attendee with the best ugly sweater. 7:00-9:00 p.m.

FREE BEER: Give a can, get a can at Pizza Paradiso in Dupont Circle (2003 P Street NW) tonight. For every canned good you donate you get a free can of beer. If you can’t make it this evening, Pizza Paradiso will be running this event at their Old Town location on December 7 and their Georgetown location on December 14. All canned goods donated will be given to Martha’s Table.

BOOKS AND DRINKS: Ernest Hemingway is almost as famous for his drinking as he is for his writing. In his new book To Have and Have Another: A Hemingway Cocktail Companion, author Philip Greene explores Hemingway’s drinking habits and offers “recipes for drinks directly connected with the novels, history and folklore.” Partake in a group cheers, and hear Philip Greene discuss his new book over food and drink, at a joint event from Politics & Prose and The Washington Club (15 Dupont Circle NW) tonight. 6:00 p.m. $55 for one ticket or $80 for two tickets. Ticket price includes one book, food, and drink.

RIGHTS PARTY: The Bill of Rights Defense Committee is throwing a Party for Your Rights at the Mellow Mushroom (2436 18th Street NW) tonight. Come out for live music, pizza, door prizes, and more information on BORDC’s “work protecting civil rights and civil liberties from our nation’s police and intelligence agencies.” $5 cover. 10:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m.

BENEFIT: Help raise money to support the victims of Hurricane Sandy at the Silence The Storm Benefit at The Gibson Showroom (709 G Street NW #400) tonight. There will be performances by The Justin Fung Band, Amanda Lee, Gideon Grove, Phil Good of Rooftop Pursuit, and Omar Ruiz & Chaucer Hwang of Crash Boom Bang. 7:00-10:00 p.m. $15 in advance, $20 at the door.
