Image courtesy of Hill’s KitchenIt’s the holiday season, so that means you’re on the search—possibly at the last minute—for gifts for friends and family. Over the course of the next few weeks, we’re going to dig up the D.C.-made and D.C.-themed gifts that we’d love to get—and would be sure to give. If anything catches your eye that you think would be worth including, feel free to send it along.
If you’re looking for a D.C. themed holiday gift and want to shop local, wander over to gourmet kitchen store Hill’s Kitchen (713 D Street SE), nestled up right next to Eastern Market metro stop.
The big new item in the store is a D.C. shaped cutting board made out of bamboo ($24.95), custom made for Hill’s Kitchen, and pictured in this post. Some of the store’s most popular items are D.C. cookie cutters (also pictured), which come in the shape of D.C., the Washington Monument, and the Capitol.
Hill’s Kitchen also sells plates with drawn images of D.C. around the edges (plates come in three sizes and range in price from $24.50 to $52.50), kitchen towels with images that match the plates ($14.95), and a kitchen towel with the Capitol dome and holly leaves and berries ($9.95). Great gifts for a chef or hostess who loves D.C.
Check back for our continuing Capital Gifts series, which so far has included drinking glasses etched with a D.C. map and D.C. map earrings.
Full disclosure: I know the shop’s owner, Leah Daniels.
