After the ‘Skins beat the New York Giants 17-16, the team headed off the field enthused by their renewed chances of making a run for the playoffs. Sitting at 6-6, the ‘Skins face a relatively easy schedule the rest of the way; ESPN’s postgame analysts started predicting whether the ‘Skins could pull off a surprise NFC East division title.
But that’s all talk. What was going on in the lower bowels of FedEx Field, where the ‘Skins were reacting to this critical win?
Quarterback Robert Griffin III was his usual humble self. “We know that our backs are against the wall,” he told the Associated Press. “And even though we won tonight, our backs are still against the wall.”
Mike Shanahan walked into the locker room with his arm slung around running back Alfred Morris, whose slash-and-dash runs confused the Giants’ defensive lines all night.
And how about ‘Skins owner Dan Snyder? Well, he might have been proudest. While he was shaking hands and high-fiving his employees, a USA Today reporter overheard Snyder’s personal thoughts on besting the Giants.
“I hate those motherfuckers,” Snyder reportedly said.
Well, Dan, that’s very nice. And while I’m sure many a ‘Skins fan—and probably a few cheesed off Big Blue supporters—would agree, let us not forget that when it comes to motherfuckers, you can use the word as liberally as you feel, but at the end of the day, you’re still Dan Snyder.
