President Obama and his family threw the switch last night on the National Christmas Tree. Joining the first family at the 90th edition of the annual White House event were musicians like Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds, Ledisi, Jason Mraz, Colbie Caillat and James Taylor, along with the actor Neil Patrick Harris, who emceed the event. (After eating his way through D.C.)

Oh, and some dude from The Fray was there, and used his time on the mic to urge the president to play nicer with Republicans. So, perhaps The Fray will be playing the No Labels holiday party? (Seriously, why does the White House need to seek bipartisanship even for its Christmas tree party? The musical lineup should be Darlene Love and Mariah Carey. Every year.)

Anyway, back to the tree. Karon Flage was in the crowd, and snapped the moment when the 28-foot blue spruce was lit up in sea of green, red and white. Yeah, the National Christmas Tree lighting always messes up the roads, but it’s still a nice scene. (EXIF)
