Ariel Pink probably didn’t expect that his 2010 album Before Today and its break-out single “Round and Round” was going to make the impact it did. The outsider artist may have signed to a record label (4AD) with a bigger distribution, but would that be enough to break Pink and his Haunted Graffiti into the indie-mainstream?

Pink scored huge with the album, and this year he got around to releasing the follow-up Mature Themes. Said to have been the album Pink wanted to release all along, the record lets its freak flag fly. Pink and his band are headlining the 9:30 Club tomorrow night, so check out the undeniably catchy “Only In My Dreams.” The track has Pink’s out-of-time style coming across as an A.M. radio hit from an alternate universe. It is Pink at his most accessible.

Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti plays tomorrow with BODYGUARD (James Ferraro) and Moon Diagrams (Deerhunter drummer Moses Archuleta) at the 9:30 Club. Tickets are $20.
