FRIDAY
NPR SHOPPING: Shopping for an NPR listener this holiday season? You’re in luck. NPR is opening their headquarters’ doors in D.C. (635 Massachusetts Avenue NW) for a Sale-a-bration this Friday (5:00-8:00 p.m.) and Saturday (10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.). Along with selling NPR t-shirts, hats, CDs, books, radios, and other stuff at up to 70 percent off, a ton of NPR personalities will be in attendance throughout each day.
SATURDAY
GINGERBREAD: Take part in RIS’s (2275 L Street NW) Gingerbread House Workshop this Saturday to create an edible holiday masterpiece. The cost to participate will be donated to D.C. Central Kitchen. Contact Natalie Christenson at (202) 730-2500 or natalie (at) risDC (dot)com to reserve your spot. 12:00 p.m. $20 per person.
SANTARCHY: You really don’t need a reason to dress up like Santa and parade around town, but you may as well join a big group of like-minded people at tomorrow’s annual celebration of Santarchy. There’s not much to it: dress up like Santa and spread cheer around town. Things officially kick of at 1 p.m. on the National Mall-side steps of the National Museum of Natural History. 1 p.m. Free.
THE GIVING MARKET: Head over to Union Market (1309 5th Street NE) on Saturday and Sunday for a different type of holiday market. The Giving Market will feature handpicked vendors dedicated to eco-conscious art, craft and design, plus family-friendly activities, with a special focus on local artists, businesses and nonprofits that “give back” to the environment or the community. 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on both days. Free, but feel free to bring a canned food item or clothing donation to support So Others Might Eat (SOME).
BEER & ART: 3 Stars Brewing Company (6400 Chillum Place NW) will help you get into the holiday spirit with an Inaugural Artists and Artisans Holiday Extravaganza. The extravaganza will take the form of a showcase of local artists and artisans that brewery owners Mike McGarvey and Dave Coleman admire, including Gordy’s Pickle Jar, Rappahannock River Oysters, 3 Little Pigs Charcuterie & Salumi, and more. Tickets are $50 and come with four full pours of beer and a craft cocktail, a commemorative shirt, and a limited edition pint glass. 5-9:00 p.m. Buy your tickets ahead of time here.
SUNDAY
MOVIES: Get your fill of holiday films at the Arlington Cinema and Drafthouse’s Christmas Movie Festival this Sunday. The all-day event will include the following films: How The Grinch Stole Christmas at 12:00 p.m., A Charlie Brown Christmas at 12:30 p.m., Elf at 1:00 p.m., How The Grinch Stole Christmas (again) at 2:30, A Christmas Story at 3:00 p.m., A Charlie Brown Christmas at 4:30 p.m., Scrooged at 5:15 p.m., and National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation at 7:20 p.m. Stay all day or come and go, skipping some films and coming back for your favorites. 11:45 a.m.-9:00 p.m. Just $8 for the whole event.
