A high-speed chase that began in Hyattsville ended with a bang this morning after a stolen vehicle plowed into another car and then smashed into a Metrobus right at the the D.C. border.
Officers from the Metropolitan Police Department and Prince George’s Police Department arrested three suspects who were in a white, late-model Nissan Maxima that was reported stolen earlier today in Oxon Hill, Md. near Neptune Avenue and Audrey Lane. The car was later reported seen at a series of robberies from parked cars in Hyattsville.
A Prince George’s officer on patrol in Hyattsville attempted to make an investigatory stop on the Nissan about 9 a.m., Cpl. Maria McKinney, a Prince George’s Police Department spokeswoman, tells DCist. The vehicle fled from the scene at a high speed before the officer could make the stop.
Another cop spotted the same vehicle a few minutes later and attempted to pursue and stop the vehicle, but was unsuccessful. With the chase continuing toward the border between Prince George’s County and D.C., the Maxima crashed into a citizen’s vehicle and then spun into an oncoming Metrobus.
Police from both jurisdictions as well as Metro Transit Police responded to the scene at the intersection of Southern Avenue and Wheeler Road. McKinney says the three suspects in the Maxima were taken into custody and transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the other car was also taken to a hospital for treatment.
Metro spokesman Dan Stessel says that the bus driver and one passenger were also taken for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
