As mentioned earlier, getting around town on January 21 is going to be the worst kind of transportation nightmare, particularly if your destination is anywhere in sight of the inauguration festivities planned for that day. But, luckily, people on two wheels might have it a bit easier.
Folded into the massive transportation security plan unfurled yesterday by the various local and federal agencies planning for inauguration, the District Department of Transportation announced that it will make hundreds of bike parking spots available for cyclists headed into the hubbub.
The bike parking will be stationed at the intersection of 16th and I streets NW, about a mile’s walk from the National Mall, but also about as close as one will be able to get before entering the area with the most heightened security that day. Additionally, there will also be large corrals for riders using Capital Bikeshare positioned on either side of the mall. One will be located at Farragut Square, while customers arriving from south of the mall can park at Independence Avenue and 12th Street SW, adjacent to the Department of Agriculture.
