One person was wounded this morning after multiple shots were fired roughly a block from the headquarters of the Metropolitan Police Department.

Officer Tisha Gant, an MPD spokeswoman, says police responded to two shots being fired at 10:22 a.m on the 400 block of Second Street NW. The victim, who was not identified, was struck in the hand. Police identified the suspected shooter as a black male who escaped after climbing in a white van that proceeded into the nearby Third Street tunnel. No make, model or license plate on the vehicle was reported.

Police have cordoned off Second Street between D and E streets pending an investigation into the shooting.
