The President and the First Lady

Michelle Obama is stunning in her second Inaugural gown—and it’s by the same designer as her first.

The first lady went with a ruby-colored chiffon gown with a plunging back and black velvet accents, according to pool reports. The dress was made by Jason Wu, who also designed the single-strap white gown Obama wore in 2009. Obama also wore diamond-embellished ring by jewelry designer Kimberly McDonald and a pair of Jimmy Choo shoes. Obama’s outfit will be housed at the National Archives following the inauguration.

“I’m still floating,” Wu told The New York Times. Wu also spoke with to Women’s Wear Daily: “Mrs. Obama likes to keep her secrets. She fooled me again. She’s really good at it. I was so nervous. You’d think I wouldn’t be since I’d experienced it before but I really was.” In 2009, the first lady turned Wu into a star by selecting a white chiffon gown with applique and sparkly beading for the first Inaugural Ball.

At the Commander-in-Chief’s Ball, President Obama said, “I’ve got a date with me here. She inspires me every day. She makes me a better man and a better president. The fact that she is so devoted to taking care of our troops and our military families is just one more sign of her extraordinary love and grace and strength. I’m just lucky to have her.” The Obamas then danced to Jennifer Hudson singing “Let’s Stay Together.”
