With nearly one million people attending the swearing-in of President Obama and Vice President Joe Biden and the subsequent inaugural parade, it was inevitable that the National Mall and Pennsylvania Avenue NW would be full of people decked out for the occasion. Obama-branded merchandise—some official, but mostly bootleg—was everywhere, including a few items that the president’s staff might not want to think of. Spectators did their best to attract attention to themselves, whether it was decking themselves out in the president’s visage, waving the thousands of small American flags passed out by volunteers, or just sporting their own unique attire.

The parade, though it was delayed by 40 minutes thanks to a long lunch by the president, vice president and members of Congress, proceeded as it always does, with throngs lining Pennsylvania Avenue hoping for a glimpse of the executive branch. Inauguration is the most ridiculously federal day this city sees every four years, but at least it’s always good for a few visual memories.
