A Metrobus passenger was stabbed twice in the chest last night in Northeast D.C. and was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, Metro officials said.

The incident took place about 6 p.m. aboard an X2 bus near the intersection of 11th and H streets NE. The bus was headed west toward Lafayette Square.

Metro spokesman Dan Stessel says the stabbing is being investigated by Metro Transit Police Department detectives. The assailant fled the bus after the stabbing, and is described by investigators as a black male about 5-feet-8-inches tall and weighing about 200 pounds, with a bald head and beard who was wearing a black hat and black sweatpants and was carrying a black bag.

Detectives are still determining what prompted the stabbing, and Stessel says that the victim is not yet cooperating with investigators.
