Metro trains on the Green and Yellow lines are experiencing severe delays this morning after a man was struck and killed by a northbound Yellow Line train at Gallery Place about 8 a.m. Trains at the busy interchange station were evacuated during the busy morning rush hour, and Green and Yellow line trains were placed along a single track between Mount Vernon Square and Penn Quarter.

Metro officials say the man’s death appears to be intentional, which would make it the second suicide this year to be carried out by a person placing themselves in front of an oncoming train.

Delays extended into Virginia, too, where Metro officials had to temporarily gate off access to the Pentagon Metro station on the Yellow and Blue lines after Yellow Line delays clogged the platform.
