If you’re standing in line at your favorite Virginia Starbucks today and notice more people than usual sporting guns, don’t worry—it’s just gun owners showing their appreciation for the national coffee chain.
The Post reports that today is “Gun Owners Support Starbucks Day,” the day on which Virginia gun owners will take to local Starbucks’ to express their gratitude over the chain’s refusal to ban them from carrying their guns in stores located in states were it’s legal to do so. In Northern Virginia, today’s day of appreciation is being organized by Ed Levine, writes the Post’s Tom Jackman:
Levine, an executive member of the Virginia Citizens Defense League and founder of Virginia Open Carry, said the point of the Starbucks day is “to show the general public that good guys carry guns too. Because all they hear about on the news is that someone got shot. You’ve got to quit creating gun-free zones. Schools, colleges, universities where a good guy can’t carry a gun is where the bad guys have a field day. This is just to show when you carry, you’re not only expressing your rights, but to show good guys carry.” Levine will be hanging out at the Starbucks in Cascades, in Sterling, on Friday and will be flush with $2 bills.
Gun advocates have been taking to walking into Starbucks’ with their guns for at least the last three years, and all the while gun control proponents have pushed the coffee chain to ban them from doing so. So far, Starbucks has stuck to its guns, so to speak, saying only that it respects local laws regarding the possession of firearms in public.
