Torres is the project of Nashville singer Mackenzie Scott. An incredibly gifted musician who stands in the line of emotional singers like Cat Power, and P.J. Harvey, Scott can not only shred the guitar when need be, but can write haunting songs that will stay with you for the rest of your life. With Torres set to play DC9 tonight, the song of the day is the rocker, “Honey’ from her recent debut record. The track builds slowly, stating sparse but then the drums start pouring in, but the song ends before it goes to far. Scott’s voice grabs your ear and never lets go.
