Shark Week have come a long way since their shambly beginnings. The four piece led by Ryan Mitchell are the premier D.C. party band. Their bluesy and boozy rock and roll has lit up almost every club in the area and now the band is taking their show on the road to South by Southwest next week. Shark Week is also playing at the Waner Theatre Lobby when they return, as well as playing at the Sweetlife Festival in May. Tonight, the Rock and Roll Hotel the is throwing the band a SXSW send-off, so it is an exciting time to get into the band. Today’s Song of the Day, “Get High,” is like a bluesier take on The Strokes’ “Barely Legal.” The track feels like it is going to burst apart at any moment, but it stays together and is incredibly pleasing.

Shark Week plays tonight with Dance for the Dying, The Flying Eyes and Joy Buttons at the Rock and Roll Hotel. Tickets are $10.
