The Metropolitan Police Department has released security camera footage of the drive-by shooting early Monday morning on North Capitol Street that left 11 people injured. The video, which is posted below, is quite graphic.
In the brief video, which plays without sound, two cars are seen rolling by a group of people assembled on the sidewalk. A few seconds in, the individuals on the sidewalk go scrambling as a hail of gunfire unloads from the vehicles.
The shooting occurred about 2:07 a.m. on the 1200 block of North Capitol Street near the intersection with New York Avenue. There is a large nightclub about a block away which closed a few minutes before the drive-by shooting transpired, and Councilmember Tommy Wells (D-Ward 6) says that police are looking at a possible connection between the club and the shooting. However, in an email to DCist, D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier says no association has been made.
“We do not have anything to connect this to the club at this time,” she writes.”
Lanier said at a press conference earlier today that officers and detectives investigating the shooting are looking for a dark blue BMW and another silver sedan of unknown make and model. All of the victims are expected to recover from their injuries.
