On most weekdays, K Street can feel like something of a parking lot during rush hour. Yesterday it legitimately turned into a parking lot.

Just as the afternoon rush was about to begin yesterday, police shut down portions of H, I and K Streets around 16th Street NW. The reason? President Obama attended spoke at the two-day conference of Organizing for Action, the advocacy group created in the wake of his re-election campaign, which was hosting high-rollers ($50,000 buy-in requested) at the St. Regis Hotel on 16th and K Streets NW.

The blocked roads didn’t only affect motorists, though—Metro was forced to detour a number of buses for up to two hours, leading to significant delays. According to Metro, the following bus routes were affected: 16Y, 38B, 80, D5, D6, G8, N2, N4, N6, S1, S2, and S4. Delays of up to 30 minutes on various lines were reported by frustrated commuters.

As we wrote last year, Metro is rarely given much advance notice of road closures due to presidential motorcades.
